I have been maintaining my current body weight range for the past 3-4 years. If it fluctuates it is within a 5 pound range. My BMI is over 25, so I should be classified as overweight. Lucky for me, my doctor doesn't buy it. I am very athletic for my age.
Among other things, BMI can't calculate fat or lean tissue. Solid muscle can weigh just as much as fat or more. This is why many people are misdiagnosed on their BMI calculation. When I did lower my BMI, although I was still muscular, I appeared to be anorexic. Now I can take back every comment I made about actresses that appeared to be anorexic!
Doctors have a better way to predict your future health and longevity, that is a much better calculator of one's overall health than BMIs. It's all about your handgrip strength. Building strength in your grip and rest of the body, can actually save you in your golden years by helping avoid falls and making it easier to lift yourself.

Live Long and Prosper
Is there a secret to living long and aging well? The keys to accomplish this are exercise, baby aspirin, intimacy, calm and self-esteem. Weight is not a factor when it comes to longevity. This is not to say to let yourself go, but rather to use common sense and eat sensibly.

Health Notes
Regardless what the findings have yet to determine, I believe e-cigs will eventually be proven to be unhealthy. For now, the best argument against them is that they influence young people to smoke. Well if you use e-cigarettes because they are healthier than cigarettes, strike one comes if you use the Nicotine E-Liquids with your smokes.
To live long and prosper it may depend on your personality. Do you have what it takes? Then it is never too late to start and at least add years to your life.

I have found that most of my health problems could have been cured by the foods I eat! Imagine if you can get natural energy.

The Longevity Of Your Long Life
Is it possible to live to be 100? Your odds are better today than they ever were. The stopper is your diet and lifestyle for the most part. If you smoke, drink heavily, use recreational drugs, have unsafe sex, eat unhealthy, and well you get the message that there are lifestyles that shorten your life.
To look for longevity, one must go where people live long and how they get there. Lets go to Okinawa. We may as well give the statistics to Japan to which Okinawa is a part. Still there is proof that the diet and lifestyle really work. The key is the weight and BMI that comes from healthy eating.
I'm not crazy about tofu or soy so it is out. Although I will not drink cow milk, I have 4 oz. of yogurt daily and cheese occasionally. I also from time to time drink goat's milk.
We really can't change our genes and if our parents didn't give us longevity, we must live as healthy as we can until our death. And there are more than one way to beat the odds. Even Dr. Oz gives a prescription to longevity.
Don't confuse the Okinawa diet with a Calorie Restriction Diet which is more harmful than helpful. You want calories coming from the right foods. Case in point. Just be aware that a real longevity diet may not exist.

What they consume is possibly abundant and fresh in their country. What works for them, may or may not work for you, but that doesn't mean that there won't be benefits and it couldn't hurt. Life Expectancy
The average life expectancy is 78.6, so how long do you expect to live? Lets start here and work through the plusses and minuses. Surprised me were giving birth to a boy -1 year(I'm shocked that it doesn't specify which parent it applies to so I'll say both) and flossing each day +4 years.
I never heard of the Okinawa Diet so I figured I'd learn more here and here. I wasn't too surprised that being poor is a -5 years, but if you are wealthy and live in Monaco you get +14 years.
For the record, I consume many vegetable and prefer to cook many of them rather than eating them raw. The benefits of say a tomato can only be had when it is cooked, that's why sauces, for example, are more beneficial than your salad tomato.
This study also lacks the male and female factor. So I'll add it and prepare to be surprised. Here is Social Security's take on it and they even give you a calculator. Although women outlived men by as much as 5 years the gap in the United States is narrowing perhaps because women aren't treated for symptoms such as cholesterol and blood pressure. We are just starting to see that symptoms of a heart attack are different in women than men.
Back a few years we wondered why do women outlive men? If you are rich, then men are catching up. Whatever you want to assume, the fact is that men are narrowing the longevity gap with women. My own theory is that the gap has been narrowing since women entered the workforce and in many households they are now the primary breadwinners. They are subjected to poorer diets and work stress in its many forms and pressures.
If you're like me, you don't really want to know what the numbers say about your life expectancy. So reflect on the positive and look for your Real Age and try to improve it. Yes that is a Dr. Oz and Dr. Rozien website. I knew it before I even knew Dr Oz!
