Brain Health

As we get older our brain begins to change. Its main mission is to make sense of the world around us, and that never changes. Everybody should do whatever they can to keep this vital organ functioning at its fullest capacity throughout our lifetime.

We have made great strides towards understanding and fighting the onsets of both dementia and Alzheimers. There's been progress in controlling the diseases and have increased the life of those affected by them. People are living and coping with Alzheimers better than ever before.

Many families that have had a family member with Alzheimers have gone through a rough emotional and physical drain of their otherwise normal lifestyle. It does take a toll not only on the person it affects.

Now a site comes along called Brain Health that has resources that will help you learn about and exercise your brain.

Sites and Resources for Fitness and Nutrition Health

The purpose of this blog is to give you health advice that will enrich your life through a healthy lifestyle. Through trial and error I hope to enlighten each individual to find their health niche. I firmly believe that to be healthy, what works for some may not work for others. For example, although I will envy the health benefits of yoga, yoga is not my cup of tea. I tried it, so I'm not just blowing smoke!

I put together some health sites and resources that can help you find interesting ways to stay healthy in all aspects of overall wellness. Some I may have given in the past but they deserve at least a look to see if something interests you.

The National Institute of Health is a government site that actually has some interesting information. This site is a good resource for living healthy and well through informative articles and links to a bevy of information on the topics.

Very Well is another resource that covers a bevy of health topics that are informative and cover a wide variety of topics including mind and spirit.

FitWatch has free fitness and nutrition trackers.

When it comes to nutrition Eat Right can fill you in a nutrition and eating right. I believe http://whfoods.com/ would compliment Eat Right.

If you don't know the number of calories in your food check out Calorie Counter.

For weight loss exersises and nutrition try My Fitness Pal.

Livestrong lives up to its name and has powerful articles about exercise, health and nutrition.

SparkPeople is a site that just might keep you healthy for a lifetime.

If your looking for video workouts Sworkit has both a free and premium programs.

Fitness Resources

The results are in and weights are more effective than cardio when it comes to stomach fat. My personal opinion is that weights should be in all exercise routines throughout our lifetime, even if we have to drop some of the weight we lift as we get older.

Walker Tracker is a program that can help you track your steps and develop a walking program. It also lets you join challenges to motivate yourself. Both for businesses and individuals.

Hot Cal allows you to track your fitness and calorie progress. It uses interactive charts and graphs.

HeiaHeia is a fun way to keep fit by tracking your progress and getting encouragement from your friends.

FitnessSyncer synchronizes all your fitness apps in one place. It also offers its own notebook to cover data that isn't covered in your apps.

FitLink is a fitness community with a variety of resources along with the help of likeminded individuals.

Ask The Trainer has exercise videos, a fitness library and nutrition information.

Your one stop fitness portal should be ABC-Of-Fitness. Other sites with fitness resources to help you get motivated to exercise are The Daily Burn, Workouts For You, and iTRAIN.

Health Journal 9

Now your healthy nutrition can be put on autopilot at Eat This Much. You just put how many calories you want to consume in how many meals and it will generate a variety of meal ideas. It can also take in account the various 'diets' that are out there.

A new study has found that you increase your cancer risk and shorten your lifespan if you get high animal protein during middle age. In your senior years, the opposite is true.

So how is that Daylight Saving Time/Spring Ahead going for you? It is funny how the hour-ahead time is increasing over time and nobody notices. It is all about time and making society more productive. Don't believe me? A few years back DST went from April to October. Now it's from March to November. Although I may be proven wrong on timelines, we have lost at least 40 hours of sleep per time change. But we are ever changing to suit our needs. Employers look at it like a weeks worth of work, and as warped as that sounds, it is a productivity issue. The only advantage of DST is that it stays 'lighter' longer in the evening. Still DST is a time to approach with caution since workplace injuries rise at this time.

Your weight loss attempts may be getting sabotaged by your coworkers and loved ones. As hard as it is to believe, your friends may be your enemies!

In health news, due to a computer glitch smokers will not be forced to pay higher insurance premiums. This means that we can expect insurance rates to skyrocket even higher for the rest, including the healthy.

People are living past 90 and their functions are improving. You can read more here.

The battle of the sexes has men as the winners when it comes to weight loss. Women don't despair and try these solutions.

Here are some strange but true health tips.

How far will you go to train? Are you so advance that you can go until you are exhausted?  If done right, Crossfit may have extreme results as gymnastics meets Olympic weightlifting. But beware of the downfalls!

Finally, Don't be a Biggest Loser. It seems the show is sending a wrong message and can be dangerous.
